Brighton Hove & District Bowls League

Welcome to the Brighton Hove & District Bowls League website. Here you will find information on the four divisions, the committee members, clubs & delegates and any recent news.

President:

In 2023 Alan Hawkins was elected as the new Chairman following the death of Geoff Bishop.

Geoff Bishop, Jim Baker and John Hayhurst, took over the running of the League at the AGM in 2016. At that time there were 5 Divisions. Alan Hawkins had been Competition and League Secretary for a number of years, he continued on Committee. Sadly a number of Clubs were closed, including Dyke Road, Hove Park and St. Anns Well, resulting in the number of divisions reducing to four.

The League was formed in 1936 and currently comprises 18 Clubs (3 clubs have 2 teams), these are  divided into 3 Divisions. All League matches start at 6p.m. on Tuesday evening from mid May to the end of July.

Each Club can enter teams for the Bill Hawkins Trophy knockout competition.

This site contains details of the League's current Officers and Delegates of member clubs, fixtures and league tables for 2026. Rules of both the league and Bill Hawkins Cup competitions.

Due recent cuts by Brighton & Hove Parks & Gardens at least two Clubs will be probably be unable to continue in 2026, namely Brighton BC and Vicarage BC. In which case the number of Divisions will be 3 only, each with 7 teams.

In 2026 we are pleased to welcome back Hove & Kingsway B team. There are 3 Divisions each with 7 teams.

This year the first games will be on Tuesday 5 May.
